Etienne Spiteri
Born in 1978
The art of composing has always been close to my heart since my early years. After delving into the subject, band clubs gave me the opportunity to compose for wind bands. Since then, most of my works were inspired by wind bands in Malta.
Born in 1978, Etienne Spiteri, from Cospicua, Malta, commenced his studies in theory, harmony and counterpoint which eventually directed him towards achieving the Associate from the London College of Music in Composition in 2002. He furthered his studies in orchestration and fugue leading to a Licentiate from the London College of Music. In 2012, Etienne graduated with a Fellowship from the London College of Music. This was pursued by another Fellowship with Honours from the Victoria College of Music in 2013. Last year, Etienne has graduated with a Licentiate Diploma in conducting from the London College of Music.
Considered one of Malta’s emerging composers and conductors, Etienne’s repertoire includes chamber, orchestral, piano, vocal and wind band music. One of his featured and most recent musical compositions is Ocean Depths for Clarinet and Orchestra which was part of an album launched together with Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, where Spiteri was also the conductor. Along with a successful career in composition, Etienne Spiteri had his composition placed
with the best ten band marches in an International Competition organised by Scomenga Music in Citta’ di Alumiere, Rome in June 2018.
Etienne Spiteri has successfully participated in Conducting Masterclasses under the tutorship of Professor Peter Stark and Michalis Economou both in Malta and the UK. Etienne Spiteri launched his first album back in 2007, followed by another one in 2011. Signum Curcis was the last album Etienne recorded in 2015, consisting of 11 original compositions by himself.
