‘1919-Symphonic Poem’ was composed on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of the “Sette Giugno” (Seven of June) which is a Maltese national holiday, commemorates events that occurred on 7th June 1919 when, following a series of riots by the Maltese people against Colonialism, British troops fired into the crowd, killing four and injuring many Maltese people. All this led to the first Maltese Self Government in 1921.
